Knowledge or Ilm is certainly a treasure and blessing of Allah (SWT). A Hadith reported by Baihaqi says, “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim (male and female).”

This knowledge primarily refers to the knowledge of Deen i.e. Islam. The Qur’an mentions, “And say: My Lord increase me in knowledge.” [Al-Qur'an, Ta-Ha 20:114].

Also, “Allah will raise up, to (suitable) ranks and (degrees), those of you who believe and who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is well-acquainted with all you do.” [Al-Qur’an, Al-Mujadilah 58:11].

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, he makes him very knowledgeable in the Deen and of course knowledge is attained by learning." [Related by Al- Bukhari and Muslim]

And, “A learned one is as much above an (ordinary) worshiper as I am above the least of you; and he added: Allah, His angels and all those in the heavens and in the earth, even the ants in their holes and the fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct people in beneficent knowledge.” (Related by Tirmithi).

Also, “The ‘Ulama’ are heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets do not leave an inheritance of Dirhams and Dinars but (they left) only knowledge. He who acquires knowledge acquires a vast portion.” (Related by Abu Dawud and Tirmithi).

Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) says: “There should be a number of you who actively call people to righteousness; who encourage goodness and forbid evil. These are the ones who shall prosper.” [Al-Qur’an 3:104]

“Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are evil-livers” [Al-Qur’an 3:110]

“And who is better in speech than he who invites (all) to Allah and does righteous deeds and says, ’I am one of the Muslims” [Al-Qur’an 41:33]

“Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord, with wisdom and beautiful preaching's, and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious!” [Al-Qur’an 16:125]

Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Convey this Message, even if it is one sentence (ayah).” [Fath al-Bari (Bukhari), 6/496, Kitab hadith al-anbiya’]

“Learn the required precepts of Islam and the Qur'an, then teach them to others, for I will not live forever.” [Bukhari]

“Whoever calls people to the truth will have a reward like that of those who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.” [Sahih Muslim, 16/227, Kitab al-’ilm]

“May Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) make his face shine, the one who hears something from us and conveys it as he hears it, for perhaps the one to whom it is conveyed will understand it better than the one who conveyed it.” [Reported by Tirmidhi, 5/34, in Kitab al-’ilm]

A man stood up whilst the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was on the minbar and asked: “O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is the best?” He said, “The best of the people are those are most well-versed in Qur’an, those who are most pious, those who most enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and those who are most respectful towards their relatives.” [Reported by Ahmad and al-Tabarani; the men of their isnads are thiqat. See Majma’ al-Zawa’id, 7/263]
